How long does the healing process take?

You will not feel intense pain after aesthetic nose surgery, you may only experience mild pain in your nose for the first 2 days. The medicines you will use will quickly relieve you. As I mentioned above, cast and silicone removal after rhinoplasty is not a painful procedure.

In the first month, nasal congestion may be experienced due to mucous edema in the nose. In the first month control, it is easier to breathe through the nose by clearing the crusts in the nose. We would like you to wash the nose with regular serum for the first 2 months.
In 2-3 months, especially the tip of the nose will appear swollen. In the first year, the nasal skin reaches its normal thickness and the healing process is completed. It may take longer in patients with thick skin. As an otolaryngologist, the result of the first year is the most important for us.
What are the important points in the healing process?
After the surgery, you may not be able to breathe through your nose due to the silicones in your nose (nasal packing) and the edema. This is a normal situation.
Starting from the first day after the surgery, wash your nose with ocean water 3-4 times a day. If nasal secretion and blood clots crust over at the tip of the nose, they will block the holes. In this case, you should dip an ear stick (papix) in vaseline or a moisturizing cream and clean the clots before they dry and crust. It will be useful. Afterwards, you should apply a small amount of antibiotic cream inside your nose. This minimizes the formation of crusts in the nose and makes you feel more comfortable.
Some blood leakage from your nose within 24-48 hours is to be expected. You can remove the swallowed blood during waking up from anesthesia by vomiting bloody after the surgery, don’t worry, this will relax you. In the next period, it will continue to come little by little with intranasal washing.
Use your antibiotics and pain medications as prescribed. You should only use the medicines given by us. Aspirin or drugs containing aspirin should not be used!.
You will apply cold to keep swelling to a minimum. Put the ice in a glove or refrigerator bag and gently apply it over your eyes 7-9 times a day (for 30-45 minutes in each application) for the first 1 week after the surgery. Place a clean paper towel over the face before putting the ice on. If you put the ice directly on your face, you may get a cold burn!
Take plenty of fluids, especially on the first day after surgery, and do not consume greasy, heavy foods. If you eat heavily on the first day, your vomiting reflux may be triggered. From the 2nd day, you can continue with your normal routine.
For the first week after rhinoplasty, sleep with your head elevated and face up. We don’t want you to lie down turning left and right
We do not wet the cast on the nose. You can take a shower or take a bath the day after rhinoplasty, but do not allow water to come into your nose.
After the cast and silicone are removed, nasal massage will be started, especially for the bone parts of your nose. It is necessary to apply massage in the prescribed manner and frequency.
Do not wear glasses for two months unless it is necessary at the end of the surgery. If necessary, a plastic frame lightweight glasses can be used.
Do not take a blow to your nose after surgery. Traumas, especially in the early period, create problems.
Do not apply heat-generating applications such as laser application for epilation around the eyes and nose for 2 months after the operation.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight for a month. May cause darkening around the eyes. It is important to use a hat and sunscreen.
You may feel numbness at the tip of your nose and sometimes in your upper lip. This will heal in over time.
What is the age limit in Rhinoplasty?

In my own practice, I do not prefer to do rhinoplasty before the age of 18. What are the factors affecting success?
Our doctor’s skill and experience is the most important factor, please be careful with your doctor’s choice! The pre-operative meeting is another important factor, right planning should be done in partnership with the patient and the physician before rhinoplasty.
Among the factors related to the patient: revision of the surgery or the history of previous nasal bone-cartilage surgery is the most difficult factor for aesthetic rhinoplasty. In these patients, it may be necessary to take cartilage from the back of the ear or the rib.
Removing cartilage from the rib prolongs the operation time of rhinoplasty, rib cartilage is harder than nasal cartilage due to its structure, therefore it is more difficult to create the aesthetic structure of the nose. I do not prefer the cartilage taken from the back of the ear because of its weak and curved structure and deformity in the ear.
Noses with thick or very thin skin, noses that are curved from the outside are more difficult by nature. As an otolaryngologist, we provide the aesthetic lines of the nose by shaping the structures under the nose skin in rhinoplasty surgery.
The nose skin is not a structure that we can intervene. When the skin is thick, it does not show changes and because it swells more, recovery may take longer than 1 year. Surprising results can occur in thin-skinned noses, as the knots of the sutures under the skin, even the smallest indentations and protrusions can be seen.
The patient should comply with the directives before and after rhinoplasty, and should not be traumatized, especially in the early period. The age of the patients, general health status, alcohol-cigarette use affect the success of the result obtained after rhinoplasty.
